Shortfills: Most asked questions

How do you use shortfills?

How you use shortfills has changed as it has become more popular with new vapers making the switch and existing vapers looking for premium e-liquids at the best price.
Shortfills were primarily used by experienced direct-to-lung vapers looking for large clouds and exceptional taste due to their high VG blend and 0mg nicotine content.

New vapers have discovered that adding different nicotine shots allows them to customise their vaping experience. Those switching from disposables or cigarettes can add 20mg nicotine salt shots for a smoother nicotine experience to satisfy their cravings. The freebase nicotine shots allow you to replicate the standard 10ml vape liquids, and the Ice nicotine shot adds a menthol twist to regular flavours.
Adding 10ml 18mg freebase or 20mg nic salt shots to the 0mg shortfills will give you 60ml or 120ml of 3.5mg nicotine strength ready-to-vape liquid.

shortfills are available in the same range of flavours as 10ml freebase liquids, with many popular disposable flavours, like pink lemonade, watermelon, and pineapple ice, finding their way into the line-up due to their popularity.

With the introduction of modern vape starter kits and pod kits capable of higher wattages, and using sub-Ohm coils below 1.0 Ohm, new vapers and budget-conscious vapers can take advantage of the money savings when purchasing 50ml and 100ml shortfill e-liquids, which can be found for as low as £1.05 per 10ml.

You are no longer required to use advanced sub-Ohm vape kits. Any vape starter kit or refillable pod kit capable of 40W and up, with coil options between  0.1 and 0.8 Ohm, can use higher VG liquids offering improved, richer flavours and larger clouds.

If you're new to shortfill vape liquids and adding nic shots, the process is easy to follow:

  • Choose your favourite flavour in either the 50ml or 100ml option.
  • Choose your free 10ml nic shots from either freebase, nicotine salt, or ice.
  • Remove the outer cap and then the inner lid from the shortfill bottle. Each bottle will have an extra 10ml or 20ml of space for adding the nic shot, hence the term shortfill, 50ml of liquid in a 60ml bottle, or 100ml of liquid in a 120ml bottle.
  • Add your chosen nic shot, replace the lid, then gently shake to avoid creating too many bubbles. Your liquid is now ready to vape.
  • Refill your tank or pod as recommended. If you have a new pod with a coil, or have replaced your coil, don't forget to let it stand for a few minutes to allow the liquid to saturate the coil to avoid dry hits and burning your new coil.

Now you're ready to vape and enjoy the richer flavours and larger vapour clouds.

How do you add nicotine to a Shortfill e-liquid?

Step 1. Remove the outer cap from your bottle of Shortfill liquid and remove the inner nib cap.
Note: This can be done by locating the small recess in the bottle just below the inner cap and using the edge of the upturned outer cap, locating it in the recess, under the edge of the inner cap, and pushing upwards until the inner cap pops off. You need to remove this for mixing.

Step 2. Take your Nic Shot, remove the tamper seal and slowly squeeze the bottle into the Shortfill bottle, filling to the top.
Note: Adding a 10ml, 18mg nic shot to a 50ml shortfill will result in 60ml with 3mg nic strength.

Step3. After you have added your desired amount of nicotine, reattach the nib and cap securely and shake well. Be sure to wash your hands and surfaces thoroughly afterwards.

Step 4. Shake thoroughly, then allow the liquid to settle and ensure no bubbles remain.
Note: Bubbles can cause uneven wicking of the coil, resulting in dry hits and leaking. The longer you can leave the liquid to settle, the better. We recommend at least 30 minutes. However, some vapers leave it overnight to ensure quality and consistency. You can then fill your tank and start vaping.

Which Nic Shot should I use?

We sell five different Nic Shots in total called Nic It Up. Choosing the right Nic Shot depends on your personal preference.
For Shortfills we recommend the following depending on whether you prefer cooling a sensation or just a higher VG mix. These work best for DTL Sub-Ohm vape kits, whereas the others are more suited to an MTL vaping style:

  • NicIt Up 70:30  - 10ml 18mg Nic Shot
  • NicIt Up Ice 70:30  - 10ml 18mg Nic Shot
  • NicIt Up 80:20  - 10ml 18mg Nic Shot

Other nicotine shots including a 50/50 blend and 20mg nicotine salts are also available.

What are your bestselling flavours of Shortfills?

Our best-selling flavours are Heisenberg and Pinkman, followed by Catapult, Blood Sukka and All Day Grape. Our Yellow and Red Slush flavours in Vampire Vape and Double Drip Strawberry Raspberry Cherry also perform strongly with positive reviews.

What are Shortfill e-liquids?

Shortfill e-liquids or "shortz" as they’re often referred to, are zero nicotine e-liquids. They’re called Shortfills because the bottles are intentionally short-filled, leaving space at the top for nicotine to be added in the form of nicotine shots. This allows vapers to customise their nicotine strength accordingly. For example, a 50ml bottle of Shortfill comes in a 60ml bottle to allow 10ml of nicotine to be added, whereas a 100ml Shortfill comes in a 120ml bottle allowing for 20ml of nicotine. If you add a 10ml Nic Shot bottle of 18mg nicotine strength to a 50ml Shortfill bottle, you will achieve 3mg e-liquid.

Fact: Shortfill e-liquids can be supplied in larger 50ml and 100ml volumes of liquid as they don't contain nicotine.

Can Shortfills be used in any vape device?

Our range of Shortfills contains 70 VG (Vegetable Glycerin) and 30 PG (Propylene Glycol) base liquid ratio. This increased VG mix produces a thicker liquid, which provides a smoother vape and much larger, denser clouds. This type of liquid is suitable for most modern pod kits capable of RDTL and DTL (direct-to-lung) vaping styles, vape kits with higher wattages, and low-resistance sub-ohm coils.

Are Shortfills more cost-effective than standard 10ml e-liquids?

The initial cost of vaping shortfills used to be more expensive, but with the introduction of pod kits capable of higher wattages, it can be cheaper than vaping standard 10ml e-liquids.
For example:
A 10ml bottle of standard 10ml e-liquid costs £3.99 per bottle.
Whereas a 50ml Shortfill costs £11.99 per bottle. You also need a bottle of Nic Shot, which costs £2.00 per bottle if bought separately.
However, for every 50ml bottle of shortfill liquid you buy on Vampire Vape, we give a bottle of Nic Shots for free.
Therefore, in this example, you get 60ml of Shortfill e-liquid for £11.99, which works out to be £1.99 for every 10ml of liquid, representing a saving of 50%. Since you're buying in bulk, the price per millilitre is much lower.

It’s also worth noting that Sub-Ohm vape kits tend to be slightly more expensive than Pod Kits. On average Sub-Ohm devices retail around the £20-£50 price, whereas Pod Kits are slightly cheaper in the £10-£30 price bracket. So, after the initial investment, Shortfills work out to be more cost-effective.

There are also other benefits, because Shortfills don’t contain nicotine, you’re not paying for this ingredient upfront. And even when you need to buy Nic Shots separately, it tends to be less expensive per unit of measure. Shortfills also come in much larger bottles, and consequently, they last longer, which is kinder for the environment, reducing plastic waste.
