From 29 October 2026, those little extras are being banned outright — and it's part of a bigger shake-up that's going to change how you shop for vapes for good.
Let's break down exactly what's changing, why it's happening, and what it means for your wallet.
The Free Products Ban: What's Actually Being Banned
Under the Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026, the government is banning the free distribution of vaping and nicotine products from 29 October 2026. That's a broad rule, and it covers a lot more than you might think.
Here's what it means in practice:
- Free e-liquid with a vape kit — that classic "buy a kit, get a free 10ml bottle" deal disappears.
- Free nicotine shots with 50ml and 100ml shortfills — the standard "buy a shortfill, get a free nic shot" bundle can no longer be given away.
- Free samples at vape shops or events — no more trying a flavour for free before you commit to buying.
- Vending machine sales — banned on the same date, so no more topping up your e-liquid from a machine at the local shop or service station.
Why does this matter so much for shortfills specifically? Shortfills are sold without nicotine (that's the whole point — you add your own strength via a nic shot), so the free nic shot has always been the thing that actually made them usable at your preferred strength. Once that's off the table, you'll need to buy the nic shot separately every time — which brings us neatly to the money question.
How We're Adapting: Say Hello To Bundles
We won't pretend the free samples ban doesn't change things — it does. But it doesn't mean good value disappears from vaping altogether; it just changes shape.
Instead of giving away a free e-liquid or nic shot, we're building bundle deals with genuine price reductions built into them. Here's how that works:

- Shortfill + nic shot bundles — since free nic shots are off the table, we're packaging shortfills together with the nic shots they need at a reduced combined price, so you're not paying full price on both separately.
The key difference from the old "free gift" model is that these savings are built into the price you pay upfront, rather than handed over as a separate free item — which keeps us fully compliant with the new rules while still making sure you're not paying full price across the board.

Double Whammy: The Introduction Of The New Vape Duty
Losing the freebies is one thing, but it's landing at the same time as a separate cost increase — so the two changes will hit together, even though they're not technically linked.
The vape tax (from 1 October 2026):
- A new Vaping Products Duty adds £2.20 per 10ml to every e-liquid sold in the UK.
- It's a flat rate — doesn't matter if it's 0mg, 3mg or 20mg nicotine strength; the tax is the same.
- VAT applies on top, so the real-world price bump is closer to £2.64 per 10ml.
For context, a 100ml shortfill could see roughly £26+ added in duty and VAT alone, before you even factor in the nic shot you'll now need to buy separately.
Put the tax and the free samples ban together, and a shortfill bundle that might have cost you one price in September could look noticeably different in November — both because the product itself costs more, and because what used to come free no longer does.
A quick calendar check, since these dates trip a lot of people up:
- 1 October 2026 — e-liquid duty starts.
- 29 October 2026 — free samples banned, vending machines banned, 18+ age rule extended to all nicotine products including 0mg vapes and pouches.
Two different dates, two different mechanisms, one very similar effect on your shopping basket.
Looking Ahead: 2027
While October 2026 is about products and pricing, there's more change coming through 2027 worth knowing about now rather than being surprised by later.
1 April 2027 — Vape tax reaches full effect. The £2.20 per 10ml duty technically starts on 1 October 2026, but retailers get a grace period to sell through existing unstamped stock until 1 April 2027. In practice, this means some pre-existing e-liquid may still be available at pre-tax prices right up until that date — so if you spot older stock at a lower price between October 2026 and April 2027, that's likely why. From 1 April 2027 onward, every bottle must carry a duty stamp proving the tax has been paid, and untaxed stock can no longer legally be sold.
1 June 2027 — Advertising and sponsorship ban. The UK will bring in a comprehensive ban on advertising and sponsorship of vaping and nicotine products. That means:
- No more paid vape ads on social media or online.
- No sponsorship deals tied to vape brands.
- No posters, billboards or promotional displays.
The government's reasoning is straightforward: awareness of vape marketing among 11- to 17-year-olds jumped from 37% to 55% between 2022 and 2025, and ministers want that trend reversed. For adult vapers, the practical upshot is that your favourite brands will likely go quiet on social media well before mid-2027, as businesses adjust ahead of the deadline. It's not a sign anything's wrong with the products — it's just the law catching up.
