Maximizing Vape Battery Life

When it comes to prolonging the battery life of your refillable vape, it’s almost all about usage.  When you vape more, the battery will drain more rapidly. A higher resistance coil will work with less wattage and so the battery will last longer. There are however numerous methods that you can carry out to ensure the longevity of your battery so that it lasts as long as possible. As with most things with a battery, consistency is key to utilization and device stamina. Using the device every day will ensure that the individual components of the device keep moving and that obsolete parts are progressively replaced.

Some of these strategies are simple; for example, if you ensure that you prime your vape coil, you will never waste a new coil after a ‘dry hit’, but you will doubly guarantee that no battery is wasted on burnt wicking material.

Unfortunately, there is an entire industry of counterfeit batteries. Always ensure that you buy batteries from reputable vendors, no matter what.

If you think about your vape battery like your phone battery, there are some palpable similarities. Following these steps will maximize battery life.

Keeping away from heat:

While heat is certainly an element of how your vape works, excessive external heat exposure will damage the battery as it works overtime to heat any e-liquid you have in the chamber.

Shielding from the cold:

At the same time, extreme cold temperatures can cause the components of the device to seize up, so insulative precautions should be taken to ensure the device stays at an ambient, room temperature.

Avoid overcharging the battery:

While many of us don’t get the chance to charge up our vape mods to 100% throughout the day, it’s very important to ensure you don’t overcharge the battery. Leaving the device plugged in overnight or for a long period may be tempting and provide you with a full charge for your busy morning, but this will slowly deteriorate the battery over time. This will eventually leave you struggling to go a full day without having to charge it up throughout the day whenever and wherever you can find a socket. At the same time, allowing the battery to fully fall to 0% will drain the battery over time as it will struggle to rebound to its standardized capacity as it continually recharges to what will decreasingly become ‘100%’. If you do this you will be fully discharging the battery, and if you have a device that uses a separate battery set (i.e. a singular or dual lithium ion set), you'll have to charge your batteries more, which will make for a worse vape experience overall and may shorten the life of your vapes.

In addition to this, make sure that when you are not using your vape, you turn it off fully. Most modern vaping kits, particularly vape pens, regardless of their cost, have an integrated circuit in them which means when it is on, or in standby mode, it is constantly ‘hovering’ – meaning that it’ll be using charge.

Keeping the device clean:

Keeping your vape on you at all times can also mean that it may become dirty as it rolls around in your bag or pockets. This results in lint or dirt progressively blocking the channel with the vaporizer, which can result in the battery draining more rapidly as more charge is required for a fuller draw.

Keeping the device dry:

If for any reason your vape gets wet or becomes submerged in water and it isn’t a box mod, remove the battery and allow it to air dry, even if it doesn’t seem to have any moisture around it. This will ensure no excess damage transpires as the battery will not have to struggle to circumvent the moisture present in the device matrix.

Proper device storage:

If and when you leave your vape behind as you head off on holiday or travel far from home, proper device storage is also pragmatic for longevity. Ensuring that your device is kept away from moisture, external heat, and sunlight. Fully charging the device before you set off will also make sure that it will not dry out to 0% over time, meaning you can pick up where you left off upon your return. It is also important that you disconnect the vape tank before leaving – this will doubly ensure that no unnecessary battery life is lost as the device lays dormant for an extended period.

Following these simple steps will ensure that you get as much life out of your battery as you possibly can.
